(1) The current layout has limited countertop space making meal prep a challenge, especially when 2 people are working at the same time.\u00a0 (2) There is dead space in the corner near the stove and they feel like they\u2019re losing valuable storage space.<\/p>\n<h2>The First Meeting &#8211; Exploratory<\/h2>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-11319 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rbscorp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Danielle-before-kitchen.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"235\" \/><br \/>\nWe paired our homeowner, Danielle, with our Certified Kitchen Designer, Shannon.\u00a0 Their first meeting helped lay the groundwork for the overall design and prioritized what was important to Danielle and her family.\u00a0 You should expect to spend 60-90 minutes at this first meeting. \u00a0Be sure to bring other \u2018decision-makers\u2019 along so everyone\u2019s input can be gathered. A decision-maker is anyone who will have a say in what design, materials, colors, or style your kitchen will become.\u00a0 Having all decision-makers together allows the designer to create something that will meet everyone\u2019s expectations (or at least try to!).\u00a0 It is important that you speak openly with your Designer so they can provide the best solutions and their expertise to your unique project.<\/p>\n<h2>The Home Visit \u2013 More Discovery<\/h2>\n<p>With the initial exploratory meeting complete, the next step was for Shannon to visit Danielle\u2019s home to see the kitchen and take measurements.\u00a0\u00a0 This brings to light the special challenges and will generate more ideas for Shannon to solve them with.\u00a0 The result of this meeting is where the fun begins and technology enters the picture.\u00a0 Shannon generated a 3D floorplan view of potential layouts for Danielle\u2019s new kitchen as shown below.<\/p>\n<h2>What\u2019s Your Style?<\/h2>\n<p>Once the general layout is agreed to the next step is selecting cabinetry and countertops.\u00a0 This lays the visual groundwork for what style you\u2019re aiming for \u2013 traditional, country farmhouse, or modern.\u00a0 Bring ideas from online boards (think Pinterest or Houzz) or from our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rbscorp.com\/services\/kitchen-and-cabinetry-design\/\">Kitchen Design &amp; Remodeling<\/a> page.\u00a0\u00a0 Can\u2019t decide on a color for the cabinets and counter top?\u00a0 Danielle and her husband had different ideas on how to use white in their kitchen, so Shannon created a rendered design showing a few options to bring them together.\u00a0 See Danielle\u2019s all white version on left and her husband\u2019s grey and white on right.<\/p>\n<h2>Digging Into the Details<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-11319 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rbscorp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/RBS-64-Berkeley-Danielle-Costa-by-Maddie-Van-6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"235\" \/><br \/>\nOnce Danielle and her husband selected a cabinet style and a specific brand, Shannon was able to dig into the details drawer by drawer and cabinet by cabinet.\u00a0 To Danielle\u2019s surprise, there were unique options to maximize space in a corner cabinet. \u00a0\u00a0Another surprise was the idea of using drawers in the base cabinets instead of doors \u2013 this allows the contents to be seen fully instead of bending down to see what\u2019s inside (of course door, base cabinets also come with pull out drawers!).\u00a0 Another interesting idea was a vertical, pull-out spice rack; while this one didn\u2019t make it into the final plans, it sparked conversation on other unique solutions to utilize the space.
